A day on the square

Thursdays & Saturdays · from 9.30pm
Not a show — an evening. Neighbourhood fadistas, a Portuguese guitar and a classical guitar, and anyone with a voice can ask to sing. No cover charge for the music: you only pay for what you eat and drink.
When someone sings, the room goes quiet. It’s the only house rule.
Next fado nights
Fado-night tables go first. Dinner from 7pm.

Beneath the tavern is an old stone-vaulted wine cellar with one long wooden table and bottles all around. Team dinners, birthdays, farewells — we handle everything, even a private fado night.

“I ordered the dish of the day without knowing what it was — best fish stew I’ve had in Lisbon. The grill man even showed us how to bone a sardine.”
Marta · Porto
“We booked the Thursday fado. No stage, no show — just neighbours singing between plates of clams. The highlight of our trip.”
Tom & Priya · London
“We held the team Christmas dinner in the Adega, 22 of us. Everything spot on, fixed price, and nobody wanted to leave.”
Carlos · Setúbal

Before you come
Weekday lunch, there’s nearly always a table. For Friday and Saturday dinner and fado nights, book — the room seats 38 and the terrace fills early. We hold tables for 15 minutes.
No. Bread, olives and herb butter arrive at the table, but you only pay if you touch them (€2.50 per person). If you don’t want them, just say so and we’ll take them back.
Yes: peixinhos da horta, charred vegetables with goat’s cheese, Azeitão cheese and every dessert. For a vegan meal, mention it when you book and the kitchen will cook something separately.
Of course. We have high chairs and a half portion of any grilled dish. On fado nights we ask the whole room to stay quiet while someone sings — little ones included.
There are two steps at the entrance and we have a portable ramp; the toilet is on the same floor. The Adega is downstairs and reached only by stairs. Let us know and we’ll set your table by the door.
Yes, we accept debit and credit cards and mobile payments. We never ask for a card to book.
The terrace on the square runs from April to October. If it rains, we move your table inside — your booking stands.
