No heat, or the furnace blows cold air
Try these first · 2 minutes
- Thermostat on HEAT, set 3° above room temperature. Swap the batteries if the screen is faint.
- Find the furnace switch (it looks like a light switch) and make sure it’s on. Check the breaker too.
- Pull the filter. If it’s gray and matted, replace it; a clogged filter makes furnaces shut themselves off.
- Press the furnace’s front panel firmly into place. A loose door trips a safety switch.

AC running but not cooling, or not starting
Try these first · 2 minutes
- Thermostat on COOL, fan on AUTO, set at least 3° below room temperature.
- Check two breakers: the furnace/air handler inside, and the disconnect box by the outdoor unit.
- Look at the outdoor unit. Humming but the fan isn’t spinning? Switch it off; it’s often a capacitor.
- Ice on the copper lines? Set the thermostat to FAN ONLY for two hours to thaw, then call us.

The diagnostic is $89 on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and $129 evenings, weekends and holidays. It’s waived when you go ahead with the repair. Front Range and Fourteener members pay nothing for the diagnostic.
Can you really come today?
Call before 2 p.m., Monday to Saturday, and we’ll be there the same day or your diagnostic is free. After 2 p.m. you’ll get the first slot the next morning, unless it’s an emergency: no heat below 40°F, or no cooling above 90°F with someone vulnerable at home. Those go out 24/7.
Do you charge extra at night or on weekends?
Only the higher $129 diagnostic. Repairs cost the same flat rate at 2 a.m. on a Sunday as at 10 a.m. on a Tuesday.
Why does Denver’s altitude matter for my furnace?
Thinner air means less oxygen for combustion and less air mass moving across coils. Gas furnaces are typically derated for elevation, and the gas pressure and airflow should be set for it. We measure combustion and CO on every furnace visit so yours burns clean and efficiently at 5,280 feet.
Should I repair or replace?
A useful rule: multiply the repair price by the system’s age. If that’s over $5,000, replacement is worth pricing. Our techs are salaried and earn no commission, so you’ll get both numbers and an honest opinion. Plenty of 15-year-old furnaces have good years left.
